Traditional Angel & Miner Luminary

In the 16th and 17th century, the mining industry was the main source of income of the people living in Germany. The lack of light in the cold season and the danger in the mines brought worry to the workers and their families.

In the midst of that challenging time while workers were waiting to be lowered into the mines they began to carve little figures one as an angel and the other as a miner. The angel was meant to bring them hope and point their way home after work. The wooden miners were the images of the men who risked their life in the mines day after day.

Over time the miners began carving the figurines to hold candles so that they would not just have reminders of hope but also light in the darkness of the mines and the season.

These beautiful wooden luminaries carry on that legacy which stems from the Erzgebirge region of Germany.

Place these out in your home during the Advent and Christmas season as a way to bring light and hope to your home and family.
